Local scholarships are specific to Shelby County High School and are only available for SCHS Seniors. Each scholarship has its own criteria and students can apply for any and all they are eligible for. All applications are due to the SCHS Counseling Office NO LATER THAN April 27th.

Registered Apprenticeship Program Opportunity

Several Shelby County companies are partnering with Lawson State to offer a registered apprenticeship program for CNC Machinist.  Students that are accepted will finish the program debt-free with a progressive salary.  The program is a paid apprenticeship while in school.

Students interested will tour businesses on April 20th to see first-hand what they will be committing to.  Parents are also welcome to attend the tour.   After the tour, businesses will conduct interviews to select students they are interested in.

No prior CNC knowledge is required.

Middle Tennessee State University Scholarship

The Biology Department at Middle Tennessee State University has three $1,500 scholarships available to first-semester freshmen.  The recipients of the awards must be graduating high school seniors, must declare Biology as their major and be entering MTSU for the Fall 2018 semester.  Successful applicants will also need to demonstrate an interest in the life sciences and have career aspirations in a biological field.  The scholarships will be awarded based on the students’ ACT scores, high-school GPA, and their responses on the attached application form.  In order to apply, a student must have an ACT score of 25 or better and a high-school GPA of 3.5 or above.

The deadline for the application has been extended to April 16th.

Alabama Lions High School Leadership Forum-Troy University

Any 9th, 10th, or 11th grade student interested in attending the Alabama Lions High School Leadership Forum at Troy University on June 15-17 should see one of the counselors for an application packet.  The purpose of this event is to build and strengthen leadership skills and create a network with other student leaders and adult leaders from across the state.

The Wilsonville Civitan Club is delighted to offer a scholarship for one student to attend the National Leadership Forum at Harding University!

Attached is the 2018 Information and Registration Packet.  The “…Forms” document should be filled out on a computer if at all possible; it is a fillable form.

Scholarship Opportunity-Jefferson State Singers

The Jefferson State Singers currently have full-tuition scholarships available for the 2018-2019 academic year.  An audition is required to be considered for   a scholarship and are open to ALL students, regardless of your major course of study.

Auditions for the 2018-2019 Jefferson State Singers will be held:

  • Friday, April 6, 2018 and Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 9:30am to 3:00pm at the Jefferson Campus.
  • Friday, April 20, 2018 and Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 9:30am to 3:00pm at the Shelby Campus.

Jefferson State Singers Scholarship Opportunity

Students must meet the following criteria to be nominated:

  • Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA after grades have posted for their first semester of the student’s senior year;
  • Must be an U.S. citizen or provide proper documented residency status;
  • Must have completed an admission application to Jefferson State for Fall 2018 semester.

Students interested should submit a typed, two-page essay on the topic “Why I desire to attend Jefferson State Community College” to the guidance office.

Alabama Agribusiness Council Foundation- Scholarship

The AACF Scholarship was created to provide students enrolled in a four-year institution located within the state of Alabama majoring in a field of study that will prepare the student for a career in agriculture or agribusiness with financial assistance to help support their study.

The scholarship amount will be in the amount of $1000 and will be awarded in the student’s honor to the university upon proof of enrollment.

AWARDING GUIDELINES:
* Applicants must have exhibited an interest in pursuing a career in agriculture or agribusiness
*Applicants should be accepted/enrolled in a four-year institution in the State of Alabama
* Applicants should be majoring in a field directly related to the study of agriculture or agribusiness
* Applicants should have a grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 grade scale
* Applicants must be a resident of Alabama

UAB-Cyber Detectives Camp

Learn how law enforcement agents use cyberspace to solve serious crime! Receive hands-on training on collecting evidence, searching for hackers, identifying malware, probing bogus financial institutions, analyzing defaced websites, and open source intelligence gathering!

Cyber Detectives Camp shows high school students, grades 10-12, the reality of 21-century criminal investigation; develops their interest in the relationship between the cyber world and criminal justice; exposes students to real-world challenges of crime in the world without borders — the internet; and provides information on criminal justice, computer science, digital forensics education, and career opportunities. By engaging in substantively related activities during a one-week period, Cyber Detectives Camp will:

  • help students develop analytical skills
  • help students learn by performing steps involved in the scientific approach to cyber investigation
  • teach students to collect, secure, analyze, and present evidence
  • expose students to current generation research tools and methods used in cyber labs around the world
  • expose students to the tools of digital forensics for solving crime and protecting the world from cyber threats
  • allow students to have fun while learning about topics such as phishing, hacking, hard drive analysis, malware analysis, and intelligence gathering
