Two Montevallo High School students are currently serving in positions of leadership with the state Future Teachers of Alabama (FTA) organization, a growing and sucessful organization for students pursuing careers in education.  Emily Colley, a senior at MHS, was elected as the state FTA President during the summer FTA conference.  She will serve as President for this school year. MHS junior Dylan Sanders is serving at the state level as a member of the FTA State Board.

Colley also serves as President of the MHS FTA chapter.  Other officers are Alexandria Buttgereit (Vice-President), Kirklynn Hamby (Treasurer), Jessie Harbuck (Secretary), and Claire Gray (Historian). These officers, along with several other members, will be taking their experiences to the next level during this school year. Not only will they be observing and learning more about the profession, but they will be involved in actual classroom instruction. Mrs. Dawn Cabrera, FTA Sponsor at MHS, will be working with teachers at Montevallo Elementary School to provide opportunities for experienced MHS FTA members to plan and lead lessons with students at MES.

“This will certainly take their learning experiences to the next level and provide a rich understanding of teaching and learning for FTA members at Montevallo High School,” said Principal Wesley Hester.
