Chelsea Park Students Donate Books for “Mustache for Your Help” Book Drive

CPES Book Drive 4Chelsea Park Elementary students recently donated over a 1,000 books in support of the school’sĀ summer reading initiative. Ā The book drive was part of theĀ ā€œMustache for Your Helpā€ Book Drive that was coordinated by teachers and staff.

The drive was organized after Chelsea Park teachers realized a need. Ā The teachers feared many of their students might be negatively impacted over the summer break due to the lack of literature available to read at home. Ā Educators wanted to make sure that all students were provided ample opportunities to read while school isn’t in session over the upcoming summer months.

CPES Book Drive 3Students were asked to provide a gently used book in exchange for a face painting of a mustache or a heart.Ā  The students were excited to help and overjoyed to get a happy in return.

ā€œOur goal was to be able to collect enough books to make sure students in need had good literature to keep them busy reading all summer long,ā€ said Ashlea Staples, Chelsea Park Elementary School Literacy Coach.

Chelsea Park Students did that and so much more.Ā  Over 1,000 books CPES Book Drive 2were collected that day and over 300 faces were painted.

ā€œWe couldn’t have asked for better participation and canā€™t wait to see the faces of the kids who have the exciting opportunity of new books for their summer reading enjoyment.ā€ said Allison Shaw, CPES Librarian.
