Calera Middle School Students Win Art Content Awards

Two Calera Middle School students recently attended the Celebration of Creativity in the Community Art Contest Awards ceremony as finalists in the middle school division. The ceremony was held on February 25 at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in honor of Black History Month. It was sponsored by 95.7 Jamz and McDonald’s.

CAMS art work flagStudents were chosen for the awards based on their visual depiction of the Civil Rights movement and the country’s progression through that era.  Calera Middle School student, Tyler Wright won the middle school division with his pencil drawing of historical figures Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, Jr. called “Leaders of the Past.”  Jacey Thornton won second place in the contest for her watercolor painting named “FREE.”

Both students left with cash prizes.  Wright’s first place prize package included an art supply gift certificate for art teacher, Nina Frazier.
