Shelby County Technology Department Hosts Successful Digital Day of Learning

A total of 2,508 teachers and students participated in this year’s local Digital Day of Learning, which was offered through a series of 14 webinars hosted by Shelby County Technology Resource Teachers on March 3.  The ten-minute webinars were offered throughout the day and featured a variety of topics to help both students and teachers explore the many facets of Google.

The sessions were designed so that a teacher could login to the webinars and use a digital projector to share it with students in the class. Topics included using Google to create a magnetic board; organizing Google Drive and using Gmail; using Google as a research tool; creating Google sheets, drawings and slides; using Google calendar and maps; using Google Drive to transfer pictures between devices; and using Google Docs with voice typing. Resources teachers also showed participants several websites to use to start learning about coding and easy ways to create and manage QR Codes.

Of the 2,508 total participants, 673 were teachers and 1,835 were students from 109 different classrooms.  This the second year that Shelby County has hosted its own day specificially for digital learning as a followup to National Digital Learning Day, which was held February 16.
