Board of Education Approves New Principal for Calera Middle School and New Federal Program Supervisor

The Shelby County Board of Education approved two new administrators at their meeting held December 12, including a new principal for Calera Middle School.

Desaree Jackson was appointed by the board as the new Principal of Calera Middle School. Jackson has over eleven years of experience in education and is currently the assistant principal at Thompson Middle School.  Jackson obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a
Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of Montevallo. She also earned an Ed.S in Educational Leadership from the University of Montevallo.

Mary Cooper

Mary Cooper was appointed by the board as Federal Programs Supervisor. Cooper has over 42 years experience in education, 23 of which have been as an administrator.  She is currently the principal at Helena Elementary School.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Oakland University and an Ed.S in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University.
