The Helena Elementary School Counseling Program has earned the designation 2019 Alabama School Counseling Program of Distinction from the Alabama School Counselor Association (ALSCA) in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Education.

“On behalf of everyone involved in this process, we are so proud to recognize Shelly Mitchell and Shelly Johnson for their excellence in school counseling,” wrote Cindy Davis, ALSCA Program of Distinction Liasion, in an email to Helena Elementary Principal Jeff Norris and Superintendent Lewis Brooks.

The HES counseling program received the recognition after providing evidence of a school counseling program that aligns with the Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Model for Alabama Public Schools and the American School Counseling Association National Model. This distinction qualifies the program for the American School Counselor Association RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program).

“Shelly Mitchell and Shelly Johnson (the ‘Shellys’) are such a vital part of our school community. They provide valuable assistance to parents, students, and faculty. This award is a testament to their dedication to Helena Elementary School and the services they provide,” said Norris.

The Helena Elementary School Counseling Program will be honored at the 2019 Alabama School Counselor Association Awards Luncheon on November 21 in Montgomery, AL.
