Mt Laurel Elementary was recently named a 2021 Legislative School Performance Recognition Program School by the Alabama State Department of Education. The recognition includes a $5,000 award to be used at the school’s discretion.

The Legislative School Performance award rewards public schools that demonstrate high performance by being ranked in the top 25 percent of public schools or demonstrate exemplary progress by improving their overall annual ranking by at least one grade on the state’s school grading system.

The schools recognized on this list are either the top 25 schools from the top 25% of schools in the state, or the 25 schools that have shown the greatest increase in total points earned over the past two years.

“We are so excited to be recognized as one of the 25 high-performing schools in the state,” said MLES Principal Celita Deem. “We have increased our report card score from 96 to 99 in the past 6 years. However, there is always room for improvement.”

Deem added that the school’s Continuous School Improvement (CSI) Team is meeting to strategically plan how to use the $5,000 prize to better meet the needs of all students.
