We will be using the Vocabulary Builder workbook that is on our Glencoeliterature book’s web site. We will be using 20 of the lessons. It is not necessary for students to have a hard copy but, if as a caretaker you would like your child to have a personal copy, they are available for purchase on the same site. Students were given a hard copy of the words for this week and the web address. Students have my permission to explore the site to their heart’s content as long as they don’t share answers with friends.
In addition, we will begin reading the historical fiction novel, Daniel’s Story, by Carol Matas on January 14. I have a class set but if a student wishes to have his or her own copy or wishes to bring an electronic version and that student has his or her electronic paperwork in order that is fine. Smart phones are not an option and students need to remember they only have permission to go on sites as directed by his or her teacher.
Lastly, students were given a reading log today. As with any skill, improvement does not come without practice. Please continue to stress the importance of reading practice now to success in high school, college and or life. I told the kids today I’ll be leading them to lots of water this semester and I do not wish anyone to finish 6th grade dehydrated.
As always, if you have questions don’t hesitate to e-mail or call.
