Let me begin this blog by expressing my thanks for having a super supportive
group of parents. I appreciate your e-mails, notes and phone calls. I also
am blessed with a great group of students who are very eagre to learn.
Reading: On Monday we will be going to the book fair. Students have viewed a group of clips about the books and authors. Of course they will also be able to buy the stuff that drives parents and teachers bonkers as well.
We will be reading the novel Daniel’s Story by Carol Matas in January and February. We will be reading the book in class and I have a class set. However,
the students devour this book and like to read ahead. In addition we read the book during colds and flu season therefore students may wish to purchase
a personal copy. I shopped for a better price and found a company that would
give us a deep discount and found several but none that could guarantee what
I needed guaranteeing. I would try Second and Charles, Books a Million and
Barnes and Noble. The book is published by Sholastic and they will have
several copies at the fair but not 325. The second half of class students will be able to read their books and work on the Independent Reading Project, “The Book Talk”.
English: We will be taking a very short quiz Monday on recognizing action
verbs, linking verbs and helping verbs. We will be starting adverbs, adjectives
and subject verb agreement in grammar. In writing we will be working on
revising sentence fragments, run on sentences and transition words. Our
punctuation focus will be on commas.
