Wednesday assignment

Students had about 15-20 minutes to complete a paragraph in class. Some did not finish, therefore it is now homework. We read the short story  “Pandora’s Box” last week and today we read a poem version. Students were then given a Type II writing assignment in class. Some had trouble remembering the short story from last week, so I am including the short story and the poem so students can compare the two.

Pandora’s Box myth

  • PROMPT: Describe one similarity and one difference between the short story version of “Pandora’s Box” and the poem version. Is the theme apparent (does it appear) in both forms (versions)? If so, what is the theme (or central message)? What insight (deeper understanding OR new information) can you gain from the poem?

Tips

Separate the first sentence into TWO. List the similarity in one sentence and list the difference in a second sentence.

You must mention the title of the story in the first line. Do NOT say something like “They are similar because…” We have to write in complete sentences by re-wording what is asked of us. I need to be able to read your answer and know exactly what the question is!

Do not use the word YOU if possible.

Do not start it OR end it by saying anything like “In this paragraph I am going to tell you about…” OR “In this paragraph you have just learned…” Those are NO-NOs in middle school.

Make sure you answer ALL parts of the question.
