Week of April 13-17

Some classes will not be meeting with me during our regular class time because of the ASPIRE test, so I am including what we are doing in class on the blog in order for all classes to get caught up.

TUESDAY: After listening to Sojourner Truth’s “Ain’t I a Woman?” speech, students will complete the following activities. 1) How does Sojourner Truth’s use of words/phrases contribute to the meaning/tone of the text. Give at least one example from the text and explain how it contributes to the tone.

2) Choose 3 sentences (or parts of a sentence) from the text that are grammatically incorrect OR outdated and change them into conventional language using formal grammar and modern word choice.

3) Using the blue literature book, answer the 5 questions on p. 366 about the speech.

WEDNESDAY:  We will turn Sojourner Truth’s speech into a free verse poem! Use this website to help you. http://www.write-out-loud.com/how-to-write-a-poem.html

We will have a mini quiz on the Daily Grammar Practice (DGP) sentence for this week. Make sure you understand the Monday and Tuesday portion of the DGP.

Thursday: We will be in the media center researching our poet for our research project. Poet Research Project

Friday: We will be getting caught up and also listening to a couple of classic poems and watching some scenes from movies that include these poems. For example, we will watch a scene from The Blind Side and then read the poem “Charge of the Light Brigade.”

HOMEWORK: finish the worksheet on prepositions
