University of Alabama Summer Opportunities
COMPUTER SCIENCE
The University of Alabama Department of Computer Science within the College of Engineering will host a series of Computer Science camps from July 21st-August 8th, 2014. A week-long middle school camp is available for commuting campers and two weeks of camps (commuter or residential dorm) are available for high school students. Students will be taught multiple topics of Computer Science while learning to program a computer in several exciting contexts (e.g., game programming and robotics at the middle school camps; and Java, robotics control and smartphone apps at the high school camps). The Computer Science camps are taught in a manner that encourages self-exploration across multiple projects.

Below are the dates of the camps:
•Middle School Week 1 (August 4-8, 2014): Game Programming with Scratch; Robotics
•High School Week 1 (July 21-25, 2014): Introduction to Programming with Java
•High School Week 2 (July 28-August 1, 2014): Smartphone Programming (Android App Inventor) and Robotics

CRIMSON MUSIC CAMP
The University of Alabama School of Music and University Bands is pleased to host the annual Crimson Music Camp for 2014. This summer, we will offer two weeks of instruction with programs in Concert Band (Junior High and Senior High) Jazz, Voice/Choral/Opera and Piano. Students enrolled in the camp will be under the leadership and guidance of the artist-faculty members of the University of Alabama School of Music. Joining the UA faculty will be guest faculty members recognized as expert leaders in the field of instrumental music education. Each member of our camp leadership team and faculty will work diligently to ensure that each student receives the highest quality camp experience. Our camps offer small group sectionals and coaching, specialized courses, and master classes…all this while spending time sharing music with some of the most outstanding musicians and teachers in the country. We also provide our campers with a Crimson Music Camp T-Shirt, supervised recreation time each evening, and a fantastic finale concert. Educational and insightful classes and rehearsals during the day, combined with fun-filled evening activities make Crimson Camp 2014 the place to be! Don’t miss it!

Samford Hosting M.D. Calling Workshop

So you feel called to be a medical doctor. M.D. Calling is a medical career workshop which will be held at Samford University June 22-25, 2014. What should you study in college?  How will you choose a medical school? What are the future trends in medical practice? How do doctors serve in medical missions and other humanitarian projects? Get answers to your questions at M.D. Calling, a three-day residential workshop for rising high school juniors and seniors at one of the region’s most respected universities. The workshop features premedicine advising, expert panels, networking, field trips and activities. Cost is $350 (includes tuition, meals, residence and activities). Special Equestrians
If you like horses, the outdoors, and helping people, we have the perfect opportunity for you. Please join the force of over 250 volunteers that assist with Special Equestrians. Special Equestrians is a therapeutic horseback riding program for people with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities. All levels of experience are available (no horse experience necessary), must be 14 years or older; just attend one of our Volunteer Training sessions Saturday, April 19th from 1:00-4:00 or Sunday April 20th from 1:00-5:00. Training sessions will take place at our facility on the campus of Indian Springs School.
