congrats, sixth grade, you found the blog:)

what’s up my good people??? 🙂

so the first week is in the books – which means it’s now time to bring out the journals…

“creamy and crunchy” – this was the book that i think i mentioned in just about every class – the book about peanut butter – loads of fascinating trivia – like george washington carver did NOT invent peanut butter – he is often said to have – one interesting trend was the amount of illnesses due to PB in recent times – whether due to gov’t oversight or just businesses being stupid – it’s amazing that people can die from such a delictable treat – anyway, i don’t think it was a major point of the book, but i did buy two jars of PB on saturday:)

“all the things i’ve done” – a high school BOB – i could camp out forever on this book b/c i soooooooooooo did not like it – it is now my least favorite BOB – i would’ve never thought the boston mystery one would get bounced but i did like that one a bit better – this one, wow, it had issues – for starters, there was the odd placement of a shakespearean drama in the play – my theory, when writers get stuck, they have their characters get cast in a play – often, one of the classics from shakespeare that their YA audience will know – and this plot device somehow is supposed to save the book – although, in this book, it just made things more confusing – it was a dsytopia (future world that’s messed up – how messed up??? chocolate is banned – so it’s contraband – and while the technology exists to make old people live forever – hooked up to machines – there’s hardly any water, no books, and people seem really hard up for things we take for granted – which makes me wonder why a future that’s so smart that it can cheat death can’t solve all the things it regressed on…)

i’m now set for a week of college football reading – i have one high school BOB left, but i’m not going to be able to get it for a while – the middle school ones will be next – although, i’ll be nice and let ya’ll claim what you want first

hope your first week of reading and writing is wonderful

  2. hey mr.mayfield its been a while so i might be a little rusty.

mon- i started reading The Serpents Shadow (the third book in The Kane Chronicles). it starts of with the usual introduction you would see in that type of book. they enter in the Dallas Texas Mueseum of Natural History. one of thier fellow musicians is having a party. they walk up to him and tell him the situation that they are in.

tues- they tell him about apophis rising and how one of the scrolls on how to stop him is in thier meuseum. so he leads them to the egyptian exibitand they look for the scroll. in the hallway sadie is stopped by a face in the wall and he says dont go after the scroll go for the golden box and save me.

weds- once they get into the exibit they find the scroll. they start heading for the scroll but then there is a loud explosion. they stop and turn around. the magician that led them to the exibit says he has to go and help his wife. then thats when the battle begins

thurs- sadie lowers her eyes into the duat and she sees the massive snake. the snake crawls across the floor straight for the scroll. the floor rips apart right below the scroll. then after all seems lost sadie sees the snake going for the golden box. she quickly yells out to thier pet baboon and he grabs the box. and after a very bad fight they go outside and see the magisions and all thier friends are dead.

  3. k. This is my “creative writing” journal. Im going to write a poem. It is a freeverse poem.

    Sundays
    Ahh, Sunday mornings.
The only down side is you have to get up early.
You start out the day with toaster waffles,
and a dress code of a polo and jeans.
Go to Sunday School and learn about God,
    Then stay for the service.
When we get home, we untuck our shirts and recline.
Then we turn on the race.
We go back and play video games,
    while our parents doze off.
We run into the living room looking for uptades on the race,
then sometimes ask them questions when their asleep.
When we end the day, we’re snug in our beds.
Thinking about school, and the great day we had.

    P.S. This is 100% original.

  4. Ok so after they get stuck in that time period they almost die from trying to rescue a man that was unconcious in a turned over boat that was in the middle of the ocean. Where I am reading right now the man is still unconcious but is talking. As he talks, the children discover that he is John White. (John White is a famous person in history that he went on a mission to gatter more supplies for his colony, but when he returns everyone misteryiosly disappears without a single trase.) That night Andrea realizes that she is John White’s grandaughter………………this is as far as i am.

    LOVE YOU MR. MAYFIELD!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

  5. By the way, I don’t think I told you what has happened so far in, “If the Ledgends Fade”. Te-lah-nay has just left a family of country people, and has been walking in the woods for a while now. She just came upon a wounded deer, and has just found out she was being watched by cougar. For a while, she has been eating corn, and is SICK of it. I mean, think about it, corn….for dinner, lunch, and breakfast….every single day for about 2 months….wouldn’t you get sick and tired of eating it? By the way, in case you haven’t noticed, my nickname is “Shar-pah” because, Tom actually gave me that indian name. It means, “bright path”. Tom’s purpose for writing the book is to let people know…..If the legends fade, who will teach the children?
(see previous comment about book to understand)

  6. Hey everybody:) I’m reading the first book in the 39 Clues series. In the recent passage that I read, they find a partial answer to the first clue. Their family mansion burns down, perhaps a trap from the “Man in black”. If the man in black hadn’t burned down the mansion an alternate history would be that they would continue on with alistair ohnand be slightly more probable to be successful in the contest.

  7. Hey people!!! im reading dear america the second diary of abigail stewart.
it is really good!!!! the author’s purpose is to tell you about the war at valley forge. i think it is kinda funny how they use weird grammar. i am at the part where abby, sally, and mom (holding johnny) are walking to see their cousins because they live near the war camps where their father is. 😀 🙂

  8. forgot 2 add that abby’s sister is staying home 2 take care of her boyfriend
😀 he is badly hurt 🙁

  9. So I am reading the book diary of a wimpy kid again for like the third time and I am starting at book one and in the first chapter it talks about how he wish is school would be and his mom mistaked a journal for a diary even though the only thing it said on the from of it was diary which is one of the things that he did not understand oh ya and the author of this diary if a wimpy kid series is Jeff kinney any way though I was saying that in the first chapter it also let’s us know who all the family members are so that is about it so I will Tell you how the 2nd chapter goes tomorrow peace!!! 🙂

  10. I am reading the book,The Red Pyramid. I think the tone is mysterious because in the books it talks about two kids that grew up in two totally different places. The kids go to their father and then they drive to a museum. Their father tells them to lock up the museum owner.Their dad touches a stick to a stone and the stone explodes. A demon is awokened and puts the father into a coffin and he dissapears into the ground. That is why I think that the tone is mysterious.

  11. I’m reading Island of the Blue Dolphins. In the book it talks about a big storm killing most woman and some men. The storm lasted two days long and when the storm was over there were only fifteen women left and fourty-two men left. The next few days on the island were quiet. Men and women would only leave their house for food or other needed supplies. Lots of animals left the village when their owners died and joined the wild pack that roamed the island. Karana and Ulape’s mother died a few years ago which meant they had to do all of her tasks. I think Karana, Ulape, and their little brother should stick together because when there is rough times on the island they will have each other to comfort.

  12. I’m reading Island of the Blue Dolphins. It talks about an important person named Kimki. Kimki is the chief. Now that many people had died and he was away on a voyage the people on the island were looking up to Kimki. He was now their leader. While Kimki was away people would go to the top of a hill and look for him. On the day Kimki was supposed to return everyone went to the top of the hill to look for him. Then, everyone hid under canoes while they waited patiently for his return. They saw ships and were hoping it was Kimki returning from his voyage. I think the ships are enemy ships coming to take over the island.

  13. I’m reading Island of the Blue Dolphins. I found out that the wild pack of dogs attacked and killed Karana’s little brother Ramo. The dogs followed Karana when she was carrying Ramo to a hut where they keep the dead people on the island. After Karana laid her brother in the hut and picked up a golf club incase the dogs wanted to attack her, the dogs stopped following her. Then Karana started following the dogs up and down a few hills. The sun was setting when, the dogs went in a cave. Karana wanted to block the cave with the dogs in it because the dogs attacked her little brother but, the cave was too wide and too long. Next, Karana built a fire near the cave hoping it would keep the dogs in the cave for the night until morning or kill the dogs. She kept putting stuff in the fire to make it bigger. When the moon rose she left the cave and headed to her house. Karana was up all night thinking about her brother and how she was going to kill those wild pack of dogs. I wonder how Karana is going to kill those dogs? I will have to read more to find out.
