i’m going to open my own nfl training camp and run around in practice shorts…

dearest students,
I hope this week is good to you – apparently from some e-mails I got this week, some of you are just realizing summer reading has started:) for the rest…

“follow me” – by david platt – my pastor – book that basically makes the case that while other religions of the world tell you to do certain things, Christianity tells you to follow a person – which then means that there’s not a “right way” to do things necessarily in all things – and his ideas are fleshed out in the remaining chapters – that part was a bit different – or I read it or understood it – differently than I have previously – the rest was just what ms. blount and I – seat buddies – have heard for the past few years – obviously, I enjoyed the book:)

“Rumsfeld’s rules” – former secretary of defense, chief of staff, and probably a billion other things, Donald Rumsfeld wrote a book that probably recaps what he tells businesses when he makes presentations today – it was a good book – any book on advice, wisdom, learned from a man at 80 can’t help but be good – it did tick me off after reading it though when I had a meeting Friday that basically violated all the rules in the book:)

so I’ve heard from billy, fred, annMarie, and some sixth grader named bailey that i’m teaching this fall – I guess – b/c that named didn’t ring a bell – anyway, happy band/football/reading days

  1. Auburn had a high attendence at their “a-day game” the should really make it an f-day game. I think the same thing happened there happened at kenyucky (go dores). Oh wait, their basketball team finished last or next to last too….

  2. Welcome sixth grader. What school are you from? And how do you know about our weekly first to blog competition?

  3. BAILEY DESHAZO, YOU GO TO COOSA VALLEY, AND YOU ARE DEFINATELY NOT IN MAFELD’S CLASS. (sorry, you aren’t awesome enough yet)

  4. BAILEY DESHAZO, YOU ARE NOT AWESOME ENOUGH TO BE IN MAFELD’S CLASS. NOW SCRAM FROM THE BLOG AND NEVER COME BACK.

  5. I DID NOT MEAN TO REPEAT. AND THAT’S 2 RECORDS IN ONE SUMMER, MOST BLOGS IN 1 DAY AND 3 TIMEZONES WORTH OF BLOGGING.

  6. I have a theory that bright sunshine is preferred over clouds that bring humidity – this view puts me in the minority, but i’m sticking with it

i’m watching “journey to the center of the earth” today so that I can pass the quiz this fall:)

wow, mr. scott’s team that wasn’t a team is really hanging in there

fun texas a&m fact (non johnny football related) – to add the 20,000 fans to their new stadium, they’re going to sink the field seven more feet below it’s current level – sounds creepy

  7. Wow y’all are just so nice. I’m NOT bailey deshazo or whatever I don’t web know who that is. And wow Fred. Just wow

  8. hey, none of this is our fault – if you had blogged this summer or not had a fred obsession since you thought he wrote everything, yeah, if you hadn’t done that, we might have remembered whoever you are…

  9. Well the reason I didn’t blog all summer was because I have been too busy with band camp. I read Shakespeare’s secret, crash, stargirl, and am halfway through reading around the world in 80 days. I’m best friends with the queen of waffles and stopped going by my former name “queen of bunnies”

  10. Fred obsession?????

Bailey, you never answered my question, and what what wowed you?

Anyway, my question, or questions are

    1. What is your last name
    2. What school are you coming from
    3. Is the comment saying we are nice sarcasm?

And Mr. Mayfield, my question is

    1. What in the world do you mean by Fred obsession.

  11. well, the fred obsession comes from the fact that this mysteriously bailey seems to google your name and gets sent to this website where she thinks you’re the only one that posts anything (see previous week and her first comment) – clearly, she’s obsessed b/c she looked only at what you wrote – you might want to hire a stalker helper – or carden – whichever is cheaper…

  12. Dear Fred,

To answer your questions, my last name is the same as my first, I went to school wih you I 6th grade and I will be going to school with you next year, also my comment “you guys are so nice” was a sarcastic one

  13. I’m not threatened. I have the largest empire so nothing can stop me!!!

Who is the sixth grader if that’s Bailey???

It’s like scooby doo where Bailey would pull a mask off her head and it’d be emily and then she’d pull off a mask and it’d be the mysterious sixth grader

  14. Mafeld you are good, too good to be true. You haven’t even read my second book and you know who my antagonist/protagonist (It’s a long story) is.
    #beatoakmountain

  15. billy – we need to start planning your “special” projects this summer – think of a major reading, writing goal – or two – that you’d like for class to work on – i’m thinking…

    1. read the willie mays bio in my room
    2. complete the grammar work in one of my “special” books (this will ensure you get those obscure scholar’s bowl questions on relative pronouns)
    3. maybe a research project that involves math???

and that would be the year – but those are goals i thought of today – you can think of your own – can start thinking about what you’d like to achieve on your own this year:)

fun ole miss-miss. state fact – it’s not the egg bowl, it’s the golden egg bowl

  16. Billy, I may be in the same math class as you this year :). Anyway, I have read all of the books in the first month, and I mean all of them, the sleepless nights of reading (if you read the time-stamp, you will see how ironic this is). Mr.Mayfield, my goal is keep my binder organized for a week, we will see how well this goes… Fred, I pose no threat to your kingdom and feel that I should stay out of conflicts that include you. Yes, that is right, my vocabulary is larger(/Google Chrome’s word database has widened (so have I! I now have bigger feet than my grandfather.)) I now have 30+ PC games. This has been a status update from the Lesser Kingdom of Turtles and Ducks.

  17. Is is too early for me to complain that I can’t get first? 😛

  18. Noooooo! First brandon, now keaton! And by the way, i was thinking the Montgomery Biscuits for nanowrimo the year (a “biography” for lack of a better word.

  19. Well im missing alot in these comment wars… I FEEL SO ALONE!!! Ugh typical 7th grade problems. Yes, im pretty sure you’re signed up for teaching this year, im so sorry, mistakes like this get you stuck with annoying 7th graders that have no potential, cant remember anything, and rely on a cape to give them self-esteem. If that’s what your 7th grade is like i cant WAIT to know what your 6th grade is like. Haha never as awesome(ly stupid and mentally crazy) as us!! I bet when you walk into your first block class (the one with me) your first words are going to be “UGH, they’re BACK! I THOUGHT I FAILLED ALL OF YOU!!!” To which i will reply with a meek “But i thought you loved us?” And you’ll just be like “I do, I was joking. (Lol, not)”

Reminding us to never trust you because you are evil

  20. KIDDING! I cant wait for your class. I have three spiral bound notebooks ready. AND I got a pack of 8 different colored felt tip pins because we ALL know i can’t write well (not “good”, “good” wouldnt be proper grammar) in ball point. So now you are forced to read my class journals!! Mwah ha ha ha ha so you can’t use the whole “I couldn’t read it” excuse. Sorry, i think you’ll be okay. ME AND BAILEY HAVE NO CLASSES TOGETHER!!!!!! And our lockers are a mile away!!! Why!!!! (I realize it’s a question. Why do i keep explaining myself? Because i can hear your voice correcting me while i type this) Now we only have the bus, and neither of us ride that bus ALL the time. 🙁 BUT on the other hand i ironically have EVERY class with Caleb?? How? I have no idea.

  21. For the second year straight, I have less than 3 classes with will and fred, but they probably have they same exact schedule AGIAN!
