it was great – we rocked the memory verses – the stories from the year – we didn’t get Heavenly Doughnuts like the 5th grade did, but we won everything else mostly…
“Gerry Lindgren’s Book of Running” – great story on interlibrary loan – Lindgren wrote it in third person – and only up through his high school days – but just an unbelievable glimpse of what running was like in the early 1960s (he was arrested 17 times – it was so odd that people would run that cops would assume he was trouble)
“scribe” – collection of the memories of a boston globe writer – sportswriter – he spoke of a dream to have a show that married sports and music – that most people love both – and i’d never thought of the connection – his chapter on college sports was good – b/c it’s such a business and it can be hard to not feel like the kids aren’t getting a lot out of it – he reconciled those two worlds pretty well
“framing faith” – a photojournalist outlined was that photos can teach use faith lessons – perspective – depth – insight – light/dark – good
how were the fireworks last night???
maf
First
No fireworks for me. 🙁
So today’s a slow day?
Was it because they did it two hours early? Or was it because they were two hours late?
yeah, sunday was as slow as a sixth grader reading “grim legacy”
or slow as sidney – just in general, in life…
but rest assured, i’m up to 14,000 words so story is being written!!!
hey no fair Mayfield I call a redo! how is the story going Mayfield?
oh by the way Mayfield I am fast really just not a really fast runner like you but close anyway I could maybe beat you at anything. the key word maybe not NOT ANYTHING but maybe.
She’s fast at…learning to play pieces on her French horn!
and now for today’s culturally relevant note:
i’m watching cloudy with a chance of meatballs – for the first time – is it any good – is the sequel good??? i’m leaving the blog for the rest of the night so have at it – i won’t be spoiled with anything
That is the weirdest movie of all time. It’s funny, but pointless.
thanks for that Eowyn. I can play my French horn good. be she is good with a sword well sometimes. she did kill the witch king if I am correct
weirdest movie of all time would be tough to top any of the “twilight” movies
oops, did i say that? I meant i loved the twilight movies
why did only the mayor get fat – i mean, mr. t’s kid went into a coma and still gained no weight??? confusing
detective and jason, you two would be proud – there was a lost lady and her daughter in the hallway of the libraries – looking for the George Washington museum – i told them it was out the door to the left – they went the opposite direction, like “ooh, let’s not listen to the little kid that looks like he just went running b/c he’s completely deranged”
so i went out the door, went left just past the museum, and i’m sure those people are still lost – or just went in to the library and got some kiddie books and a few trash DVDs and called it a day – grrr…
For the record, I don’t even know where the George Washington Museum is…
I might be a legendary half-elf detective, but it still get lost easily.
lol and I know some movies that can top twilight like … um Percy Jackson could maybe top twilight or inkheart. any others Mayfield?
inkheart was really bad – particularly b/c that book series was so good
legendary half-elf – go around the main entrance of the library and BOOM, GW museum – basically, on the other side of the “complex” from where you hang out – closer to the incredibly long line for car tags – always…
and now, another Fred moment…
Mayfield paused because all of his mentored kids’ names went through his head and for the life of him, he couldn’t remember the detectives name – particularly, how to pronounce it with correct spelling. He went to Plan B.
“…as for you detective, I have spied something with my little eye and you get 20 guesses.”
“Is it the purple ball located five nautical miles offshore in the ball pit?”
“Wow, um, no,” Mayfield said as he now realized Rachael’s incredible eyesight meant she was part elf, particularly because he knew no one at the table besides himself was eating carrots. “Think, or look, a little bigger and more general.”
“The photo of Sarah Elizabeth and Corbo running out the door to finish their Bronto Burgers after both were just a bite away from finishing? The menu three booths down that has purple crayon drawn on it? The water running by hole No. 7 on Fred’s Miniature Diner Golf Course? I hate that hole, I always…”
“Hey guys,” Fred said as he returned, “Have I missed much?”
Finally! One of my dreams have come true (the other one[winning state tourney in scholars bowl] hasnt happened yet)
billy, i can probably manage that
related note to the second dream – i made a mental note today that when we practice in the fall and i give time to research things – like states, capitals, presidents – we need to also devote a bit of time to artwork – b/c no one ever gets those questions
i could stick emily on the team next year and have the blue hood just stalk artwork – that might work
i will be at the library tomorrow around 11
Will M., Fred, and I. (The dinosaurs will scare them away)
jason – sorry i missed you – have some more water from the fountain for me…
on a related note, i returned “yankee doodle dandy” to the regional library – awesome musical – just in time for the 4th
I got three books cinder, It, and The plague
I’m at home today. However, I am making Doctor Who themed cupcakes for Bri’s birthday.
“bri’s a yankee doodle dandy, yankee doodle do or die,
a real life niece of her uncle same
born (sort of) on the fourth of july…”
Well….Mom’s birthday is today, and Brianna’s is on the 7th.
so dr. who cupcakes are shaped like a phantom tollbooth???
No, they’re shaped like regular cupcakes, but with Tardises on top.
tomorrow’s the hot dog eating contest – which reminds me of the waffle eating contest in next year’s story
and the key questions are:
1. how many waffles could sarah nicole eat in a given time?
2. how could the binder help her?
3. would the detective have a waffle song to help sarah nicole along?
4. what would the prize be???
these are the questions that haunt me at night…
lol and dr.who rocks by the way. I wonder how many of freds waffles my brother could eat as long as there is bacon in them
oh Mr. Mayfield can I just not read around the world in 80 days It is like tying me to a tree and saying … ready, aim, FIRE! Plez anything but that I would jump of a cliff if it would help
1.) Binder Girl could probably eat, oh, 15-ish waffles.
2.) She could stuff waffles in the pockets of her binder.
3.) Of Course.
4.) An autographed sock puppet from Detective
~or~
4.) Syrup
80 DAYS is the BEST SUMMER READING BOOK EVER!!!!! Dont diss my man phil. He’s part of “The Club”
i’m with billy – particularly after hearing my high school kids complain every year about the “terrible” books they read up there – the mental approach is 90 percent of anything in life – decide you hate a book, you hate a book – decide that it’s just a book and it doesn’t have feelings and you can survive it, and lo and behold, you do – amazing…
so no? I HAVE TO read the book
Hi!
It’s BRI!!!!!!!!!!! I’m re-reading harry potter: the half blood prince
hey lilBri – i’ve actually never reread the series myself – so two scoops of fun for you today
(be sure and wish for the world as a present for your upcoming b’day)
today, to calm my prerace jitters, i read from the history of espn – reading about how “this is sportscenter” commercials were shot always gets you fired up:)
I jumped off a bridge today!!
whatever for??? you have so much to live for – like your sis’s b’day
did you survive???
well I think so how else would she have told us and by the way EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!
Of course I survived.
And it was, for the most part, Titus’s idea. We all jumped off at the same time.
And Sidney, I believe you need a doctor.
oh, i get it, if titus jumps off a bridge, it must be cool…
detective, you ARE peer pressure – you don’t succumb to it:)
if sidney would read 80 days she’d be less psychotic…
It was more “family pressure” than “peer pressure.”
As of right now, I’m watching ‘the Phantom of the Opera’ on Netflix.
hey! I might skip it might might not
phantom is one of my all-time fave books and operas (rock opera technically, i think)
one reason i love phantom is that he’s gifted – and it’s sort of a classic model of how truly gifted people have a tough time in the world – so i really feel for the guy – but i have the book at school detective if you decide you want a challenge in the first nine weeks
Great! A brilliant first 9 weeks challenge!
i actually ordered “phantom” books last year and got like 15 kiddie versions – they’re pretty hideous – you’ll have to spy them in a good game of “i spy” when you get bored in class some time – they’re well hidden on the book shelf
I’m watching ‘Phantom’ again…
I can’t wait for school to start again!
i actually have a 2-cd of all the music – so basically, the entire show – it makes for a good road trip
i’m very excited 2 about having Binder Girl back… 🙂
