where have all the yellow school buses gone???

chelsea park was a ghost town this morning – not that the elem school is rockin’ when i go by running – but, sigh:( no buses out back today

by the way, sorry for this being late on sunday – it’s not like i have a good excuse like i’m at the beach or the lake – just reading – trying to finish a good baseball book

“bunker hill” – oh, where has this book been all my life??? 🙂 the cool thing about reading is that you can think you’ve read everything good and then lo and behold! you discover there’s a gem you overlooked – in this case, in 2013, this book came out – i should’ve read it heading to boston in 2014 – but i didn’t know about it – thankfully, i had it as “preparation” for 2016 – just great for Rev War reminders – boston trivia – by the way, bunker hill wasn’t fought at bunker hill – it was breed’s hill…

“my year of running dangerously” – great book – guy went from three miles to 50 mile races in a year – he’s a reporter for cnn – great book on the power of family – and what running looked like in this state in the 1980s (hint: it was pretty – and it had hills)

“the grind” – what’s it like to compete at the major league level? less glam than people think – this book was a DC reporter’s account – from multiple perspectives – players, wives, travel agents, gm, scouts – great for middle school

“marathon” by DeMar – again, where has it been all my life? published in 1937 – i read a reprint – really, still as fresh and current as back then – because it was the story of a SEVEN time boston champion – and didn’t have the odd training stuff that some running books have – demar taught sunday school as well – he kept boy scouts – he was a teacher later in life – all that was neat

hope summer gets off to a good start

  1. It’s weird thinking that it’s all over, that there’s no going back. CMS has been a part of me for 3 years and now it’s all gone. To all the class of 2021 and to the class that knows me as Mr. Teacher Man, enjoy your years here, you don’t have many of them left. Don’t be a jerk just because you are older than someone. If I had thought of that when I could have used it at CMS, I would have had better friendships with sooooo many more people. Just don’t do anything you will regret, and on the flip-side don’t not (sorry for double-neg) do something if you even think not doing it would make you regret it.

    Too bad this is…
    A) too long for anyone to read.
    B) the summer, when no one gets on.

  2. i’m feeling productive – almost 1,000 words on Day 1 of Binder Girl 2 (no, that won’t be the official title – sequels are never as good…)

    here’s my sample:

Pretty soon, night descended on the land of Mayfieldya. Kate, still not over the trauma of having to attend a funeral, was out looking for shadow bunnies. As such, she missed the ground begin to become very uneasy as a certain binder awakened to crawl out of its grave…

  3. I WAS FIRST!! I WAS FIRST FOR ONCE!! EVERYONE MUST BOW DOWN TO ME!!

  4. look at master vic – gets a new name and now a new image…

speaking of things new, i don’t have anything else:) b/c i’m stuck at CMS while my car awaits tires at johnny howard’s – yep, great start to the summer…

  5. At least you’re not in Texas…they’re getting washed off the map…

  6. more story!!!

Tone had fallen asleep during Agent Blue Hood’s rather lengthy diatribe about her dream being to end the dream of everyone else. Tone’s dream was very real. He was surrounded by bunnies out for revenge.
Agent Blue Hood decided it was better to let a sleepy Tone lie so she left Tone alone and went and sat near a cliff in the mountains.
“Come on, binder. Come to your new mama,” She cooed as she held the ring, the one true ring forged by Hello Kitty to rule them all. Agent Blue Hood could wait. She was good at waiting – and watching.

  7. I painted my nails. I don’t ever paint my nails. And look, I’m wearing a collection of bracelets. Cool. This is new. Thanks, summer break.

  8. Plotting my summer scholars bowl reading. I have George Orwell “a-farm” and “1984” on my list. Any others? (Besides the warriors series, you know where we have 5 questions on those books)

  9. oh yes, varsity scholars bowl is filled with warriors questions… 🙂

i’d recommend some good history – american history – you know, the good guys version:) but that would help you with history to come – and scholar’s bowl – so something about Rev War or Civ War – since you don’t get honors history

you could knock out of mice and men if you want a short fiction book though – just remember, short books=bad endings

  10. The good guys version of history is NEVER as interesting as the “BAD” guys version!! I would know. Spock’s history isn’t as interesting as Khan’s…no matter what Detective says.

  11. this bit is long – but i figured i had to use it all or it wouldn’t make sense – it is draft one so it can be improved…

It was summer and the halls of Princess Sarah Elizabeth Finishing School were quiet. Well, except for the occasional whimper of the orphan child who lived within the walls. But the whimpers were mostly in self-pity this time of year, there was still plenty of leftover food, so all was fairly quiet – and well.
Off in the distant shadows, two binders met.
“Hannah, I can’t believe it’s been a whole week since I’ve seen you last.”
“Harrison, you look so big and strong. Have you been lifting?”
“Of course baby, anything for you.”
“I gave mom and dad the slip this morning. They thought I couldn’t wait to get packed for the family trip to the beach when really all I wanted was to see you.”
“I know babe. I told my parents I needed to go to the paper factory to ‘bulk up’ a little at the ‘all you can eat’ buffet.”
“Oh, enough small talk. Hold me in your strong arms.”
Harrison the Binder and Hannah the Binder embraced. Then, they heard a chilling sound…
    CLICK-CLACK!
    “What was that?”
“It’s probably a tree in the forest. Or maybe that orphan legend. Or…”
    CLICK-CLACK!
“There’s definitely something. It’s getting closer.”
    CLICK-CLACK!
“Maybe we should exit out the back,” Harrison suggested. He turned to push into the door. It was locked from the outside.
    “Darn school safety,” Harrison muttered.
    CLICK-CLACK!
    “MOMMY!!!” Hannah yelled.
“You can have the girl!” Harrison screamed. “I won’t tell! I never tell! My muscles are too bulky for me to die this way!!!”
CLICK-CLACK! The binder appeared on the edge of the shadows.
“Phew,” Harrison said, “You had us scared dude. Yo, help a binder bro out and give us some privacy, ‘k?”
    CHOMP-CHOMP!!!
Just like that, Harrison and Hannah were eaten and sucked dry by the vampire binder, a vampire binder with a thirst for more…

  12. I’ll have you know, Detective, I was obsessed with wars When I was younger. Especially American Wars. Now I’m more interested with World War 2 and the Holocaust. Not that I support it. Just curious.

  13. so victoria has turned to the comforts of war for this summer…

for the record, i think everyone supports WWII and fighting the holocaust – you’d be hard press to find someone that said it was a mistaken war:)

  14. Or I’d just be on Tumblr…all sorts there….everything is a huge debate…

  15. Victoria, just wait. And read next year’s BOB books. Odds are that there will be at least 1 holocost historical fiction.

Mayfield, any teaching techniques on 1 Kings 17, Elijah and the food-bringing ravens? I’ve never had it as a lesson to listen to or to act out… Too bad the “quoth the raven, nevermore..” Allusions would be lost on the kids.

  16. billy, depends on how crazy you want to go – certainly a relay/race would be fun – they could be little ravens bringing something – like words from the text if all the know is how to write and spot words – it could be words provided – they could write them on the board

they could also relay a piece of bread – as sock puppet ravens – each team with a slice – that way, they’d have to take care not to rip it apart

  17. detective in action from Binder Girl II…

    Everyone took a seat.
“Ma’am, a day ago, our Hannah turned up missing.”
“Ma’am, the same day, our Harrison turned up missing.
“We think Harrison has kidnapped our daughter.”
“We think Hannah has lured our Harrison into a web of deception.”
“We need to find our binder girl.”
“We need to find our binder boy.”
“I don’t usually take cases with binders,” Detective began.
    “Well, that’s just racist.”
“I agree. Binders and detectives share 99 percent of the same DNA.”
“That made-up fact may be true,” Detective said

  18. Tomorrowland….it’s in theaters…if you like Optimistic sort a love movies, it’s perfect for you…not enough violence for me..*sighs*

  19. Spelling Bee ended in a tie for two years straight. Not to mention the sibling thing. Just… wow.

  20. You have not heard the last of me!!!!
but you will hear me talk about(bragging) how Im already on Chapter 2 of 80 days and only to realize that thats only pg 5…
Saw a bunny in the woods today
had no urge o kill it
