“rising tide” – story of alabama integration from 1956-70 at the bama campus – really enjoyed reading the book – it was something i could talk about with my dad – i liked the more balanced view of the principle figures – too often, they’re caricatures – really enjoyable reading

“birmingham then and now” – i got this one for my mom – i enjoyed it too – when i run mercedes, i’ll think about the buildings that are there – and the buildings that were there – and that’ll be cool – it’s nice to know the history behind things – buildings don’t just appear – and when we think about what lasts, it’s important to know that buildings come and go – what we do as people remains

“national boards: ELA standards” – i got a good teaching idea from this one
