Matter & Minerals
Students took the Minerals Voc. Test as soon as the bell rang. Then, they began the Minerals Review from a Worksheet. We will complete the Chapter Assessment tomorrow and review the questions from the two Review guides. So ,that means the Chapter Test will be on Friday instead of Thursday.
Minerals
Students took the Ch. 3 Pretest today and were responsible for finishing it at home. They have a Minerals Voc. Test tomorrow as well as the Minerals Pretest And Chapter Assessment. They will have the Minerals Chapter Test on Thursday.
Density
We introduced the concept of Density today. We reviewed the formula for density and worked 3 practice problems on the board. Students were introduced to the way of determining formulas using the triangle as well as using Algebra. Then, students were given the Density Word Problem WS. It was not finished in class, so it was for homework and due tomorrow. (45 pts) We will finish the chapter tomorrow with one more slide and the Vocabulary Test scheduled for Wednesday and Chapter Test on Thursday. Several students forgot to bring their calculators. They were reminded to bring them each day.
Minerals
We began and completed the Minerals Crossword Puzzle. Class was changed a bit today, due to a Senior Assembly first then a Junior Assembly.
Minerals Characteristics
Today, we discussed how mineral are formed, their general characteristics and the various groups of minerals. Students were told to bring a calculator to class to work density problems on Thursday.
Types of Bonds
We continued talking about the 3 major types of bonds (ionic, covalent, metallic), their characteristics and how to differentiate among them. We were introduced to the definition of minerals and how they are identified.
Atomic Bonding
We talked about the types of bonding (ionic, covalent and metallic) and went over the relationships on the Periodic Table. It is vital that they understand the electron configuration and notes to be able to determine bond type.
Minerals
We completed the information on the nucleus of atoms, isotopes, mass number and how to determine the information from the Periodic Table. No homework for the weekend.
9-11
We wrote a 5 paragraph essay on the events of 9-11. Afterwards, viewed a 12 min. video clip on the events of 9-11 in 2001.
