After advising the students on the need to focus the last weeks of the year, we discussed how to conduct ourselves in the computer lab. Then, we went over the requirements for the "Volcanic Research". Each student was given 7 volcanoes on which to read, study and come up w/7 pieces of information from country to latitude and longitude. Students were then to type up the information on a data sheet and turn in for a grade on Tuesday.

Volcanoes Test
Students took the Volcanoes Test and began the Volcanoes Word Search. We will perform a small assignment on identifying major volcanic eruptions and important facts when they return after Spring Break.
Volcanoes
Students reviewed the answers to the Volcanoes Chapter Assessment. Then, we began the Ch. 18 Review Guide (84 pts). At some point and time during class, we took the Volcanoes Vocabulary Test (48 pts). The Volcanoes Chapter Test (100 pts) will be tomorrow.
Volcanism
We took the notes that students had for homework and compared them to the notes from the PowerPoint. Then we completed the Volcanoes Crossword Puzzle (44 pts) and Chapter 18 Review Guide (84 pts). Tomorrow we will have the Volcanoes and Other Igneous Activities Vocabulary Test (48 pts) and Chapter Assessment (60 pts). Which leads to the Volcanoes Chapter Test on Thursday.
Plutons, Magma Production
The types of Plutons and the factors that lead to the production of magma were determined by students reading and summarizing the topics in their textbook. Then we compared the notes from their text with notes from the PowerPoint. Emphasis being on summarizing and comprehension.

We continued taking notes on lava forming landscapes and shapes.
Types & Shapes of Volcanoes
Students used their book to read and determine the important facts from Sec. 2 of their text on "Types of Volcanoes". After being given time to read and write those facts, they were compared with the notes from the PPT on the same topics from the book. The ultimate goal being, "Learning how to breakdown and determine important topics from the textbook".
Types of Volcanoes & Lava
Students continued to take notes and discuss the information on Volcanoes. Today, we specifically talked about the term viscosity and how it relates to lava, the two major types of lava and how they differ. Then, we compared a volcano to a soft drink and it's bottle. The gases that are dissolved in lava and types of lava from the eruptions was also mentioned. We concluded class by discussing the 3 major shapes of volcanoes and how they acquire those shapes.
Volcanoes
3-17-15 (Tuesday)
We began the notes on Volcanoes by viewing the Volcanoes PowerPoint. We learned the key parts to a volcano and how they grow. Also, we learned the key factors that control a volcanic eruption.
3-16-15 (Monday)
Students were allowed to introduce themselves to the chapter on Volcanoes by completing the "Volcanoes" Vocabulary (48 pts) and Review Questions (60 pts). They were allowed to finish the Review Questions for homework.
“Born of Fire”
Students were allowed to finish viewing the video, "Born of Fire" and answering the questions from the video. Then, they began the vocabulary from the "Volcanoes" Chapter.
