Summer Programs

University of Notre Dame Pre-College Programs
Summer Scholars program offers 300 talented rising high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to explore one of 21 fields of study, at the college level, with Notre Dame faculty. The classes are small in size, allowing for a more personalized experience. To explore this year’s offerings in detail, which include courses in the arts, business, humanities, the sciences and social sciences, please consult the Pre-College website (http://precollege.nd.edu)

Notre Dame Leadership Seminars offers high achieving, rising high school seniors from across the country, and the world, the opportunity to engage in discussions on issues of global concern under the tutelage of Notre Dame faculty. This program is especially designed to hone the expressive skills of advanced students. Nearly 100 students are selected for this program that is funded by the University. This year’s courses are American Arts, Popular Culture and Social Change, Global Issues: Towards a Just Peace; and, Science, Ethics and Responsibility.

There is also a study abroad program in Rome, Italy (Study Abroad:Rome). This 12-day seminar will focus on the built environment, introducing students to the history and culture of the Eternal City. For mature, rising seniors only, this program will be limited to 20 students. Selection criteria for Study Abroad is similar to Leadership Seminars and is for rising seniors only.

McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University is offering a one week Pharmacy Camp this summer for high school students that are interested in investigating a career as a Pharmacist. Information is located at www.samford.edu/pharmacy

STEM Camp – Jefferson State Community College
STEM Camp (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Explore careers in robotics, manufacturing, automotive technology and many more. Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 may attend. Camp is typically free due to a generous grant and will take place in June at the Carson Road Campus of Jeff State. Sewanee Bridge Program
The Bridge Program in Math and Science is sponsored by the University of the South (Sewanee) and provides a scholarship for tuition, room and board-so the program is free! Twenty selected students will live in a dorm, work with college students, and study under University professors in state-of-the-art classrooms. Interested juniors are encouraged to apply for this three-week summer math and science program in Sewanee, TN. Applications are due March 15. Information is available at http://www.sewanee.edu/summer/high-school-students/ in late Winter (February).

The American Youth Leadership Program offers opportunities for American high students and educators to travel abroad on a three- to four-week-long exchange program to gain first-hand knowledge of foreign cultures and to collaborate on solving global issues. Several different organizations implement this program, and each has organized an academic and experiential educational exchange focused on dialogue and debate, leadership development, and community service. Recruitment areas and application deadlines vary, so please check the American Youth Leadership Program website for more information.
