Spring is in the air and students in the City of Vincent are aware! On March 12th, Peer Helpers from Vincent Middle High School had the opportunity to work with the budding learners at the First Baptist Church of Vincent. The Middle/High School has implemented a Peer Helper program for several years. Students who participate in the program have many jobs including helping teachers, working alongside students with special needs, and more recently, helping the public library with their pre-school reading program.
Vincent Middle School students Gabby Scott and Adrienne Sims had the opportunity to be the teachers as they taught the four-year-old class about plants and seeds. Gabby and Adrienne, with the assistance of their librarian Kelley Deason, put a lot of work into this project. They spent several days in the library designing the perfect lesson which they implemented flawlessly. The four-year-old class was treated to a reading of the book Oh Say Can you Seed? by Bonnie Worth. Students were treated to a “snack of seeds” and were given the opportunity to plant their own mustard seeds. It was a great day and a fabulous learning opportunity for all of the students.
