During the week of March 3-7, 2014, Forest Oaks Elementary Principal, Dr. Resia Brooks, presented a challenge to her students to turn off the TV and other electronic devices. Instead, she encouraged them to enjoy other activities like reading, helping others, and spending more time with their families.
Two hundred students signed up for the challenge and submitted their pledge forms. During the week, students recorded their activities in the Turn Off the TV activity logs.
Many of them helped their parents around the house, read more, played board games, and engaged in outdoor activities. The students received certificates at the conclusion of the challenge.
