Theron-Fisher Stadium in Montevallo was the site of community-wide clean-up and improvement project on Saturday, August 9. Over 60 student-athletes, coaches, parents, and community members gathered at the stadium to clean, paint, and make improvements to the grounds and facilities.
The efforts were in preparation of the upcoming football and soccer seasons in the Montevallo community. Some of the improvements made to the stadium included a thorough pressure-cleaning of home and visitor bleachers, landscaping of surrounding grounds, and updates to restrooms. A fresh coat of paint was also added to the home-side bleacher areas, ticket booth, visitor field house and restrooms, scoreboard posts, goal posts, and flag poles.
Also, players, coaches, parents, and community supporters have helped support and prepare for other stadium improvements including new fencing and a freshly-paved coating and striping of the track and hard surfaces surrounding the stadium.
Head Coach Andrew Zow and Athletics Director Trey Simpson coordinated the event and brought many people together to help improve the facilities and prepare for the upcoming seasons. Also, Coty Jones – representing the Montevallo Athletic Club led the effort in securing support and services for stadium improvements, as well as helping with cleaning and renovations.
“Montevallo Athletics has a brighter future when individuals come together for one purpose,” said Zow. “Saturday, there were coaches, players, former players, and parents showing pride in our stadium. By coming out with one goal in mind, we were able to get a lot accomplished. We are headed in the right direction and we will make a difference in our athletic programs. Go Bulldogs!”
“This effort is a testament to the cooperation and connection that we have in Montevallo,” added MHS Principal, Dr. Wesley Hester. “There were people here today representing the City of Montevallo, the University of Montevallo, and the elementary, middle, and high schools in Montevallo.”
“Not too often do you see this kind of teamwork across the board in a community. However, this is nothing new in our community, and it is model of how community connection should be,” Dr. Hester continued. “In addition to the help from outside MHS, our student-athletes and coaches were here, sleeves-rolled-up, and working alongside everyone else to create the best venue possible for this school year’s upcoming events. This is a great way for our student-athletes to take ownership of their school and programs. The Montevallo schools are so blessed to have such tremendous support from parents, patrons, the City of Montevallo, the Montevallo Athletic Club, Montevallo Youth Sports, and the University of Montevallo.”
