Billy Boughey, a highly creative and energetic producer, emcee, and leadership consultant, is the featured keynote speaker for the Shelby County Student Leadership Conference. The event will be held September 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Valleydale Church. It is being hosted by the Oak Mountain High School Student Government Association.
This is the second year for the event, which seeks to equip high school students with the leadership skills to make a positive impact within their school and community. Last year’s conference was attended by more than 200 students. This year, over 300 students are expected to attend as the event expands to include neighboring school districts. Schools sending student representatives include Calera High, Chelsea High, Helena High, Montevallo High, Oak Mountain High, Shelby County High, and Vincent High from the Shelby County School District; Pelham High from the Pelham School District; Thompson High from the Alabaster School District; and Spain Park High from the Hoover School District.
In addition to Billy Boughey, the high school students will also hear from several special guests, including University of Montevallo President Dr. John Stewart, Shelby Schools Superintendent Randy Fuller, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Lewis Brooks, and others. There will also be a special address from Governor Robert Bentley.
Thirty student leaders from universities across Alabama will lead the high school students during small group breakout sessions. The emcees for the event will be Oak Mountain graduates Caroline Beauchaine, who attends Auburn University, and Bentley Maddox, who attends the University of Alabama.
