Lindsey Irvin, gifted teacher at Calera Intermediate School, has received two grants to implement exciting projects for her students. She received a mini-grant from The Alabama Association for Gifted Children to fund a rocketry building unit. Students will be able to assemble and launch their own model rockets as they study aerospace engineering.
She is also the recipient of The Jenice Riley Memorial Scholarship from the Alabama Humanities Foundation. This grant funds projects that enhance student understanding of History and Civics. In collaboration with The Calera City Council her students will be creating a structure for an old bell that was once located in the Calera Presbyterian Church adjacent to the school property. Students will be working with local historians, the city council, city parks department and city council to complete the project.
