What would you do if you were given $100,000? Would you spend it all at once? Would you think about putting some of it in the bank?
Through participating in The Stock Market Game (SMG), the fourth and fifth grade Gifted Education students at Forest Oaks Elementary gained a fundamental understanding of investing and how they might get their money to work for them. By researching and making investment decisions, students were experiencing real-world scenarios as they made connections and used skills that are taught in math, English Language Arts, economics, social studies, and other school subjects.
“Most importantly, The Stock Market Game helped students develop positive money habits and prepare them for their future,” said teacher Leigh McLemore.
The Stock Market Game is a 10 week competition where students compete to increase the value of their team portfolio by investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds of their choice. Winners are determined on the basis of either equity or the percent return above/below S&P 500 Growth. Congratulations to the following students for placing top ten in their region:
3rd Place: Allie Lario and Eli Williams
4th Place: Will Fant and Parker McIntyre
7th Place: Campbell McCluney and Andrew Floyd
9th Place: Bricen Waites and Nicolaus Rigdon
