Young Writers Flourishing at Montevallo High School

Some young writers at Montevallo High School have recently been recognized for their successful writing in the areas of fiction, poetry, and short stories.

SONY DSCSamuel Reece, a sophomore at MHS, recently received notice from the Alabama Writers’ Forum that he and his writing teacher, Ms. Erma Hinton, will be recognized in a special ceremony at the Alabama State Capitol Auditorium on Wednesday, March 18.  Reece will be honored for his outstanding fictional writing. This prestigious honor is a part of the Alabama Writers’ Forum’s annual High School Literary Arts Awards program highlighting the state’s best young authors and writers. Reece will also have two poetry pieces published in the 2015 Shelby County Literary Magazine, which highlights Shelby County’s great young writers. His two poetry pieces are “Soon the Trees Will Turn” and “He Didn’t Sing about His Girl”.

Emily Tryon and Kelli Sellers will also have outstanding works published in this year’s Shelby County Literary Magazine. Tyron has two poems that will be published in the magazine, “I Am an Artist” and “The Last Day: An Ode to the End of Band Season”.  Sellers short story “The Japanese Soldier” will be published in the magazine as well.

“While quality writing in all areas is a top priority at MHS, these young writers and others continue to shine in their passion for literary arts and outstanding writing,” said MHS principal, Dr. Wesley Hester.
