OMMS Robotics Students Place at National Competition

Spencer  HamidTwo students from Oak Mountain Middle School recently placed in the top ten of three competitions at the National Technology Student Association (TSA) Competition, held June 28-July 2 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, TX.

Spencer Dunn and Hamid Choucha represented OMMS in the VEX Robotics Competition held in conjunction with the National TSA event.  Dunn and Choucha competed in both skills and teamwork challenges as part of the competition, which tests students ability to program and maneuver robots in various competitive challenges.

Spencer Hamid OMMS 2The duo placed 7th in the Programming Skills Challenge, 9th in Combined Skills (Driver and Programmer) and 4th in the Teamwork Challenge.

Teacher Sherri Whitehead had high praise for her students, who competed against teams from across the United States.

“They worked hard to overcome so many unexpected challenges,” she said. “They represented our school well, not only in the Robotics arena, but they were also very respectful to everyone they came in contact with.”
