The Calera High School Navy Junior ROTC recently participated in a five-mile Mud Run and obstacle course in Cantonment, FL on October 24.
“The competition consisted of 20 obstacles including mud trenches, rope bridges, underwater tunnels, log carrying, and more events designed to test the cadet’s stamina, endurance and intestinal fortitude,” said instructor Major Aurelio Garcia. “Cadets normally compete at the team level but for this competition we decided to compete individually. Julia Grooms came in third in her heat followed by the rest of the cadets.”
Garcia said there were more than 2,000 attendees at this event, plenty of mud, obstacles and bruises for all. This is the second Mud Run that the Calera High School NJROTC cadets have attended this year.
“The cadets said this event was ‘the best by far’ and they want to come back next year,” Garcia said.
