Montevallo High School Future Teachers of Alabama Students Active in Local Community

The Future Teachers of Alabama students at Montevallo High School are quickly becoming an organization having a great impact on their local community.  FTA sponsor, Dawn Cabrera has been working with the MHS students this semester to develop and reinforce skills necessary to be good teachers.

Recently, the University of Montevallo held its annual “Future Falcon Day” for eighth-grade students. This full-day event includes several events such as listening to the UM symphony band, a campus-wide scavenger hunt, listening to professors speak about campus life and preparation for college, and eating lunch at the UM cafeteria.

“Our Future Teachers essentially coordinated this day with little assistance and demonstrated leadership values we strive to instill in all of our students,” said Principal Brandon Turner.

MHS Parents Night Out 2The FTA also recently hosted a “Parent’s Night Out” which allowed many of our students to work with, and build relationships with younger students.  There were several MES students in attendance who were treated to games, movies, and even a visit from Santa.

“Future Teachers has developed into a great leadership training program for our school, and we are looking forward to increasing their role,” said Turner. “Beginning next semester, we are planning on sending our students to Montevallo Elementary and Montevallo Middle so they can assist teachers in classrooms.  Members are continuously learning ways to assert themselves in providing assistance and representing MHS as positive role models for students in our community.”
