The Oak Mountain Middle School Robotics team recently swept the competition at the Mountain Brook VEX IQ Qualifier, held at Mountain Brook Middle School on December 12th.
“Our five competing teams did amazing,” said instructor Sherri Whitehead. “All five teams made it to the finals round. Six awards were given out at the end of the competition and OMMS Robotics won them all.”
Those awards and winning teams were:
Driver Skills Award: OMMS 6th grade team # 2
Programming Award: OMMS 8th grade team
Teamwork Challenge Award: OMMS 8th grade team
STEM Research Award: OMMS 6th grade team #1
Robot Design Award: OMMS 6th grade team #1
Excellence Award: OMMS 6th grade team #1
“The 8th grade team and the 6th grade team #1 have now qualified for the State competition at Jacksonville University,” said Whitehead. “Our 8th grade team scored so highly in the Programming Challenge that they are now ranked 35th in the World. We have high hopes that they will be asked to Worlds that will take place in Kentucky in April.”
