Seventh and eighth-grade students from across Shelby County participated in the district’s annual Scholars Bowl competition Thursday, February 2 at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center.
Montevallo Middle School’s seventh-grade team took top honors competition with the first place win. Helena Middle School finished in second place while Oak Mountain Middle finished in third place.
High Scorers for seventh-grade from each school were:
- Calera Middle School – Gavan Hawks
- Chelsea Middle School – Holden Griswold
- Columbiana Middle School – Elijah Hockman
- Helena Middle School – Richard Oehrlein
- Montevallo Middle School – William Landers
- Oak Mountain Middle School – Aiden Dokland
- Vincent Middle School – Toni Lee
Elijah Hockman from Columbiana Middle School was the overall individual first-place high scorer. William Landers from Montevallo Middle School was the second-place high scorer. Holden Griswold from Chelsea Middle, Richard Oehrlein from Helena Middle, and Aiden Dokland from Oak Mountain Middle School tied for third place.
For the eighth-grade competition, Oak Mountain Middle School won first place. Montevallo Middle School placed second and Helena Middle School placed third.

Elizabeth Camp from Oak Mountain Middle School was the first-place individual high scorer. Jack Dickerson from Helena Middle School and Grayson Fulmer from Montevallo Middle School tied for second place. Akayla Isbell from Chelsea Middle School finished third.
