Chelsea Park Elementary School took top honors for the annual Battle of the Books competition for the Intermediate school division. Shelby Elementary School finished in second place. Chelsea Park Elementary and Shelby Elementary faced off in the championship round after winning pool play during five previous rounds of competition held earlier that day. Each of the two “pools” was made up of five teams, with the winners of each pool then matching up in the final round.
Battle of the Books is a scholars bowl style competition where teams answer questions pertaining to six books chosen for that year. This year the books for the middle school competition included: Lucky Strike, The Water Castle, Fish in a Tree, Half a Chance, and The Fourteenth Gold Fish.
Lexi Redd from Mt Laurel Elementary was the overall Individual High Scorer for the competition. Others who were recognized as high scorers for each school were: Cynthia Li – Chelsea Park Elementary; Denisen Justice – Elvin Hill Elementary; Chris McNeill – Forest Oaks Elementary; Ethan Hayes – Helena Intermediate; Cheyenne Whalen – Montevallo Elementary; Eliza Barnes – Oak Mountain Intermediate; Alexi Stanton – Shelby Elementary; Kynnedi Mitchell – Vincent Elementary; and Emma Rary – Wilsonville Elementary.
