The Shelby County Board of Education approved three administrative positions on June 26.
David Calhoun was approved as the new Assistant Superintendent of Administration and Pupil Services. Mr. Calhoun began as a teacher at Chelsea Elementary School in 1990, served as an administrator for both Chelsea Middle and Chelsea High. He was most recently serving as Student Services Coordinator. Mr. Calhoun received a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Physical Education from the University of Montevallo and obtained an Education Specialist degree in Educational Administration from Samford University.
Joann Gates will assume the duties of Coordinator of Accounting and Finance. Gates was most recently serving as Supervisor of Accounting and Finance. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Jacksonville State University. She also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Jennifer Lowe will serve as the new Assistant Principal for Helena High School. Ms. Lowe has over 10 years experience in public education and currently serves as a Spanish teacher at Helena High School. Ms. Lowe earned a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Spanish, along with a Master’s degree in Foreign Language Education at Auburn University. She completed her degree in Instructional Leadership at the University of Montevallo.
