Three new assistant principals were approved by the Shelby County Board of Education on August 22. The new assistant principals will serve at Elvin Hill Elementary, Helena Middle School, and Chelsea High School.

Jane Smith will serve as the new assistant principal of Elvin Hill Elementary School. Smith has over eight years of experience in education and currently serves as an Instructional Coach for Shelby County Schools. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of Montevallo. 

Raquel Stevenson will serve at the new assistant principal at Helena Middle School. Stevenson has over 26 years of experience in public education and currently serves as the administrative assistant at Calera Middle School. Ms. Stevenson earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Montevallo.

Brenton McCaleb will move from being an administrative assistant at Chelsea High School to the role of assistant principal. McCaleb has over 24 years of experience in public education, including 16 years at Montevallo High School as a teacher and coach. McCaleb earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama.
