There was no shortage of rock stars at Helena Elementary School on September 19, as both students and staff celebrated their first annual Rock Your School Day.
Rock Your School Day is a day that is set aside each September to engage students in their learning through meaningful activities and a positive school culture. Rock Your School is a worldwide event coordinated by the group Get Your Teach On to create an outside-the-box educational experience for students that gets them excited about learning.
The faculty and staff worked to plan lessons in blacklight classrooms, decorated the entire school building in a rock-themed decor, and collectively planned rotations around each grade level. Students and faculty members dressed up as rock stars and received the VIP treatment all day.
Jeff Norris, principal of HES, said the day was an enormous success. There are already plans to add to this event next year.
“Everyone was involved and engaged throughout the day…and there were so many smiles! Taking the opportunity to celebrate students, celebrate learning, and celebrate our school was definitely worth the extra time and effort.”
