Special Needs Fairy Tale Ball Held at Sterling Castle

Once upon a time, there was a magical castle located in a small town in Shelby County, where princes and princesses met to attend a very special Fairy Tale Ball held especially for them….

SONY DSCSterling Castle once again served as the location for the third annual special needs prom.  The Fairy Tale Ball was held March 20 and was attended by students from every high school in Shelby County.  It is a favorite activity of both special needs students, and peer assistants from each school who attend the event to lend support to their fellow classmates.  Students and teachers spent the entire morning on the dance floor, dancing to both classic and current hits.

In addition to a morning full of dancing and laughter, the students SONY DSCwere treated to a catered SONY DSClunch of salad, Chicken Alfredo and cupcakes.   They sat at beautifully decorated tables, complete with table cloths and centerpiece arrangements.  The table which held the cupcakes looked like Cinderella’s coach.  Other castle-themed decor included coat-of-arms banners which represented each school in attendance.

SONY DSCThis year’s prom queen, as voted by all of the students in attendance,SONY DSC was Hannah Ziegler from Shelby County High School.  The king was Rocky Cummings from Calera High School.  After being named King and Queen and having their photos taken, Ziegler and Cummings took to the dance floor for the traditional King and Queen dance together.

A special thank you to Victor and Missy Binkerd, owners of the Sterling Castle, for their tremendous support of this event.
