Varsity Scholars Bowl teams from Shelby County High School and Oak Mountain High School will face off January 18 prior to the Shelby County board meeting to determine the winner of the 2016 Scholars Bowl. SCHS and OMHS varsity teams earned the top two spots and the right to compete in the championship round during the district’s annual Scholars Bowl competition Friday, February 5 at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center. Helena High School finished in third place.
High Scorers for Varsity from each school were:
- Calera High School – Josh Gibson
- Chelsea High School – Joshua Silas
- Helena High School – Richard Taylor
- Montevallo High School – Kayla Snuggs
- Oak Mountain High School – Cole Sullivan
- Shelby County High School – Jim Vick
- Vincent High School – Gavin Matthews
Cole Sullivan from Oak Mountain High School was the overall individual first-place high scorer. Joshua Silas from Chelsea High School was the second-place high scorer. Josh Gibson from Calera High School and Richard Taylor from Helena High School tied for third place.
For the B-Team competition, Oak Mountain High School took top honors with the first place finish. Shelby County High School placed second and Helena High School placed third.

- Helena High School – Josh Daugherty
- Montevallo High School – Nathan Moreland
- Oak Mountain High School – Adam Pendry
- Shelby County High School – Billy Fryer
- Vincent High School – Joe Worthy
Adam Pendry from Oak Mountain High School was the first-place individual high scorer. Billy Fryer from Shelby County High School finished in second place and Josh Daugherty from Helena High School finished in third place.
