Students from the Shelby County College and Career Center “Pinked Out” their campus on October 28 in order to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.  This was the fourth year for the event, which is sponsored by the Student Government Assocation.  Advisor Kim Estill said the event was expected to raise more than $1,000 for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure fundraiser. Students raised money by purchasing t-shirts for the event, “pink” goodies from the Culinary Department, pink face paint or nails from Cosmetology, or by paying $1 to participate in various games and activities. And while the students participating in the event had a good time, they remember that it is a very serious topic.  The Health Care Science class hosted an informational booth about the the importance of early detection and self exams.  Students also decorated the hallways with pink ribbons with the names of family members or friends who have been impacted by the disease.
