Shelby County Schools held its annual Middle School Math Tournament on March 21 at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center. Students competed in sixth-grade math, seventh-grade math, middle school pre-algebra and middle school algebra 1.  Congratulations to the following students and teams for their outstanding performance.

Individual winners for 6th-grade math were: 1st place – Thomas Ludwig, Chelsea Middle; 2nd place – Thota Avanish, Oak Mountain Middle; and 3rd place – Vicki Zou, Montevallo Middle and Diya Samal, Oak Mountain Middle (tied).  Team awards were presented to the following: 1st place – Chelsea Middle; 2nd place – Oak Mountain Middle; and 3rd place – Helena Middle.

Individual winners for 7th-grade math were: Kaden Kugler, Chelsea Middle; 2nd place – Nathan Mitchell, Helena Middle; and 3rd place – Sena Matsuda, Oak Mountain Middle. 7th-grade team awards were given to the following: 1st place – Chelsea Middle; 2nd place – Helena Middle; and 3rd place – Oak Mountain Middle

 

Individual winners for Pre-Algebra were: 1st place – Matthew Gudino, Helena Middle;  2nd place – Brandon Abernathy, Columbiana Middle;  3rd place – Brandon Christmas, Columbiana Middle. Team awards went to the following: 1st place – Columbiana Middle; 2nd place – Helena Middle; and 3rd place – Montevallo Middle.

 

Individual winners for Algebra 1 were: 1st place – Neil Furman, Oak Mountain Middle; 2nd place – Chiraag Samal and Dylan Moore (tied), Oak Mountain Middle; and 3rd place – Tyler Noland, Oak Mountain Middle. Team awards were awarded to the following: 1st place – Oak Mountain Middle; 2nd place – Chelsea Middle; and 3rd place – Helena Middle.
