Students from Shelby County will have the opportunity to explore career options in the Biomedical field through a new Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science program being implemented at the Shelby County College and Career Center for the 2017-2018 school year.
“We believe this rigorous curriculum will prepare students for post-secondary and career opportunities,’ said Julie Godfrey, Supervisor of Career and Technical Education. “By adding this program to the Shelby County College and Career Center offerings, all of our schools and communities in the Shelby County School District will have access to this unique learning opportunity.”
Godfrey said that Project Lead the Way courses provides transformational learning experiences with engaging and hands-on lessons.
“By working with the same tools used by professionals in hospitals and labs, students engage in compelling, hands-on-activities and work together to find solutions to problems,” Godfrey said. “Students will take away from the course in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.”
Godfrey said health care occupations top the lists for Alabama’s most in-demand jobs. The Biomedical Science Program will be offered in addition to the current Health Sciences program at the College and Career Center.
“Our current health care programs work with area hospitals and all of the students have secured jobs as they continue their education,” Godfrey said.
In addition to the two medical programs, additional course offerings at the Shelby County College and Career Center for 2017-2018 will include Robotics, Health Science, Cosmetology, Automotive Technology, Collision Repair, Welding, Culinary & Hospitality, Construction, Plumbing,
