Joel Dixon will serve as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources after being approved by the Shelby County Board of Education at the September 24 meeting.

Dixon is in his twenty-third year in education. He has served as an administrator in Shelby County Schools for the last twelve years. He began his career with Shelby County as assistant principal at Calera High from 2008-2012, then serving as principal at Vincent Middle/High from 2012-2014, and principal at Calera High School from 2014-2018. Since 2018, Mr. Dixon has worked as the Human Resources supervisor.

Prior to coming to Shelby County, Dixon taught English Language Arts at McAdory High School for ten years. He earned his BA and MA in English from UAB, his administrative certification from the University of Montevallo in 2008, and his EdS in Instructional Leadership in 2013. Dixon lives in Columbiana with his wife, Amy, and his two children, Emily and Will.
