Several middle and high schools from Shelby County recently completed in the district’s math tournament at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center.
Oak Mountain Middle School finished in first place in the 6th-grade math competition followed by Chelsea Middle School in second place and Calera Middle School in third place. Individual high scorers were Mia Noble – CAMS, Carter Roach – CHMS, Brayden Hutton – CMS, Calvin Bremer – HMS, Sawyer Adams – MMS, Aidan Cui – OMMS, and Walker Wills – VMS. Carter Roach and Aidan Cui tied for first place overall high scorer followed by Gavin Tisdale from OMMS in second place and Mia Noble in third place.
Oak Mountain Middle School was also the first-place finisher in the 7th-grade math competition. Helena Middle School finished in second place and Chelsea Middle School finished in third place. Individual high scorers were Jacob Hotchkiss – CHMS, Xan Smith – CMS, Edward Boadi – HMS, Joshua Chatham – OMMS, and Jasmine Jordan – VMS. Joshua Chatham, Daniel Rutland, and Brandon Shin, all from OMMS, were the first, second, and third-place high scorers.
Helena Middle School won the 8th-grade math competition with Montevallo Middle finishing in second place and Chelsea Middle finishing in third. Individual high scorers were Chloe Statham – CHMS, Addison Davis – CMS, Jon Cheever – HMS, Gracie Mixon – MMS, Madelyn Young – OMMS, and Stacey Dominguez – VMHS. Jon Cheever from HMS was the first place overall high scorer, with Chloe Statham from CHMS in second place, and Alexie Lawrence from HMS in third.
Oak Mountain Middle School won the 8th-grade Accelerated Math competition with Chelsea Middle finishing in second place and Montevallo Middle finishing in third. Individual high scorers were Ella Gurtler – CHMS, Vanessa Gallegos – CMS, Connor Wright – HMS, Nathan Gallagher – MMS, Maddie Rogers – OMMS, and Jordynne Rose – VMHS. Connor Wright from HMS was the first place overall high scorer, with Ella Gurtler from CHMS in second place, and Cooper Swindle from CHMS in third.
Oak Mountain High School won the Geometry competition with Chelsea High School finishing in second place and Shelby County High School finishing in third. Individual High Scorers were Colby Surrett – CHHS, Connor Griffin – HHS, Karma Edwards – MHS, Song Lee – OMHS, Josephy Tallie – SCHS, and Connor Buchanan – VMHS. Song Lee, Brandon Cui, and Taylor Miller all from OMHS were the first, second, and third place overall high scorers.
Oak Mountain High School won the Algebra I competition with Chelsea High School finishing in second place and Montevallo High School finishing in third place. Individual high scorers were Hannah Bousman and Isabella Brouillette (tied) from CHHS, Akila Maxwell – HHS, Magaly Jimenez – MHS, Tai Yu Kuo – OMHS, Eli Dykes and Audrey Rogers (tied) – SCHS, and Matthew Jolley – VMHS. Tai Yu Kuo, Sarah McCallister, and Anna Luisa all from OMHS were the first, second, and third place overall high scorers.
Oak Mountain High School won the Algebra II competition with Helena High School finishing in second place and Calera High School finishing in third place. Individual high scorers were Joshua Smith – CAHS, Arabelle Barnett – CHHS, Andrew Griswold – HHS, Aiden Glenn- MHS, Jennifer Lee – OMHS, Jacob Massey- SCHS, and Chloe Abrams- VMHS. Jennifer Lee from OMHS was the first place overall high scorer followed by Thomas Spina from OMHS in second place and Andrew Griswold from HHS in third place.
Oak Mountain High School was also the first place finisher in the high school Advanced Math competition. Chelsea High School finished in second place and Shelby County High School finished in third place. Individual high scorers were Kris McAnally – CHHS, Will Griffin – HHS, Cade May – OMHS, Denison Justice – SCHS, and Seth Graben – VMHS. The first, second, and third place overall high scorers were Cade May, Sai Korrapati, and Caleb Flowers, all from OMHS
