The Montevallo High School Varsity Cheerleading squad had a strong showing at a recent Universal Cheerleaders Association camp and competition. The cheerleaders attended camp on the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus and came home with several trophies.
They placed second in the dance category, second in the cheer category, first in defense sideline, and second overall in the Game Day competition (a combination of cheer, sideline, and band dance). Two MHS squad members, Jill Brantley and Emma Jones, were also named All-American Cheerleaders. Squad Captain, Myranda Wills, said, “I’m so proud to see what we accomplished. I feel that every girl gave 110 percent, and really worked hard. I must say that I am proud of my squad and I think we did an amazing job at camp.”
The MHS Varsity Cheerleaders are coached by Jordan Pritchett, an MHS graduate and current 9th-grade history teacher. This will be the third year Pritchett has served as the squad’s coach. “I enjoy working with these young ladies very much,” Pritchett said. “Since our Varsity squad is 9th – 12th grade, I get the girls during the spring of their 8th grade year, and it’s a joy to watch them grow and mature through their high school years.”
The Varsity Cheerleaders are looking forward to cheering on their Bulldogs during the opening home game of the 2013 football season. Montevallo High School will face off against the Fultondale High School Wildcats on Friday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m.
