Shelby County Board of Education Receives President’s Award from AASB

Members of the Shelby County Board of Education were honored with the Alabama Association of School Board President’s Award during the District 5 regional meeting, held September 15 at Oak Mountain High School.

The award recognizes school boards which, as a team, have a committed to improving their boardsmanship skills.   It honors school boards which have had a least 60 percent of their members attend three or more AASB School Board Member Academy courses, and all the members have met their state-mandated training requirements for the last year.  The award’s presentation was based on attendance for the 2105-2016 academy year, which ran from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016.

“You are to be commended for your team’s commitment to learning all you can about school board service in order to serve the children of your community,” stated Sally Smith, Executive Director of AASB in a letter announcing the award selection.
