Happy New Year–A few items including vocab

Happy New Year all.  I hope you all had a restful, peaceful break.  A letter was sent home today with all of my students with a very important message and deadline.  Please ask for it.

Today the students were given their new reading logs that begin tomorrow and we went over the importance of the Independent Reading program I have tried to institute.  Once again we went over how to use the log and how to properly fill it out.  Logs are due on Thursday for each week and may not be turned in late.  This should be an easy “A” grade each week.

We also went through our daily composition book routine to insure that all students understand  how they are to complete their daily or “today” work.  Composition books will be graded once each progress report period or about once every 4.5 weeks.  This too should be an easy “A” each time.

Next Test : Jan. 12    Homework and extra credit is the same as last semester for each vocabulary test.  I do not give extra credit at the end of the 9 weeks so take advantage of the offering.

Vocabulary homework is due the day of the test and cannot be handed in late.  This too should result in an easy “A”.

Our vocabulary words for test next week  are:

hindrance, implicit, explicit, narrative

from our  selections “Satchel Page” and “Eleanor Roosevelt” in our textbooks:

satchel, potential, confrontations, prejudice, racists, unparalleled, inducted, makeshift, prospered, counterpart, waning, outlasted, establiashment, reform, debutante, prominent, prosperous, slums, syndicated, priority dictators, delegates, reduced(verb), impromptu

The comprehension portion of the test will come from the same selection and will include answers that must be implied from the reading.

On Thursday we will be going to the media center to checkout books and choose our next Independent Reading assesments.

I may only be able to check e-mail between 7 am and 4pm for the next month.
