Independent reading Homework

OOOPPS Chance

Students have been assigned 2 independent reading assignments so far this 9 week period.  Comprehension checks for these count as a silver grade as they have all year.  On Monday of the week of April 4th, students were informed they could submit a 150 or more word summary of the readings to pull their grades up as high as an “A”  on both comprehension checks.  The deadline for that is FRIDAY APRIL 8. Students were given this info on the fourth.

Reading assignment 1:496-506

Reading assignment 2: 966-977

Students have been reading and journaling  historical novels they chose to read.  The books must be read and a reading journal completed  by May 2.  We have gone over the reading and journaling requirements for each book multiple times both before and after Spring Break and students have been given multiple class days to choose a book and begin journaling.  The journal requirements are posted in the room and each student has been loaned a copy of the book they are reading.

I encourage caretakers to discuss the novels and journals with their students. However,  I ask that the students read and journal the novels themselves.  At some point before the end of middle school students must learn to read and write on their own.  The sooner the better.
