Picture Sparked Memoirs

SUMMER READING

Students will be given their Summer reading assignments this week.  The assignments are mandatory and due on August 12.  The directions are explicit and students are encouraged to read the novels at least twice and use a method of their choice to take notes .  If you did not order your books from the school I urge you to purchase or otherwise obtain them soon.

The seventh grade teachers have given explicit assignments and students should not assume they can turn in a “book report” that deviates from the assignments.  On a personal note, I believe the choices are excellent and every student should be able to enjoy one,  if not all of the books.  Look over the assignments at the beginning of the Summer and note the amount of time that will be needed to read and complete the assignments.  I hope you will utilize  time management skills to plan for success.

NOW

Our community quilt is completed.  The “Picture Sparked Memoirs” have been added to a poster with 2 poems and a picture to complete a story about each of my students.   All posters have been woven into a  “quilt”.  You may view the quilt before school after 7:20 or during 6th grade lunch.  Sign in in the office before you visit.  You will not be able to enter any of the classrooms.  All individual quilt pieces will be returned to students on May 18.

Individual Journals and open book tests for the novels students read in class and at home were due last Monday.  The grades should be posted by the 12th.

There are no more homework assignments. We will be reading and practicing grammar lessons in class and some of that work will result in bronze grades.

All library books must be returned this week and late fines paid.  Students may borrow my personal collection books until they are finished with them.  Students, please return them when you are finished or in August.
