start the advent, and restart the blogs…

so it was thanksgiving this weekend – i think – and i did a bit of reading…

“talk of the tide” by john forney – got the book when i was a sophomore in high school – read it then – so a reread after a bazillion years – enjoyed it – lots of sports talk that seems new really isn’t (for instance: the talk about bama playing for a national title while not having a crack at the SEC title isn’t new historically) – enjoyed seeing signatures of guys i met years back – good oral history

“drama” by john lithgow – barney’s dad on “how i met your mother” – the leader in “3rd rock” – movie/theater guy for years – harvard grad – very creative – very down-to-earth account of his life – good gifted tidbits about persevering – about dealing with success – about pursuing dreams

“the running doc’s guide to running” – something like that – anyway, the race medical lead doctor of the rock ‘n roll marathon series and one time doc for the ING marathon (new york) outlined basic ways to be healthy and run – and how to troubleshoot problems – when to see the doctor – great, great read – after reading books about injuries and running for years, this one actually had some useful info – and was helpful – refreshing read about a subject i know a bit about

finished romans and 1 corinthians this week – also finished my magazines – found an article in “the economist” about roundabouts instead of stoplights interesting – b/c there are roundabouts in my subdivision – nobody knows how to use them, but at least they don’t die in crashes b/c of them (like head on things at lights)

hope your blogging/finishing nanowrimo is great

  3. So Monday’s blog is gonna be Authors Purpose!
I am reading the book Love out of the series Stargirl. I think the author’s purpose is to let people know you can fall in love far away. it might be hard but you can work through it. Everyone has their tough times and they always find a way around it. Stargirl is living in love without Leo but she still has moments. Moments where she can’t control herself from wanting to break out and cry where ever she is at. She loves Lie alot and it is very hard on her. Being put in a school and falling in love. Then being ripped out like a band-aid.
    Tuesday-Point of View-Stargirl
    Dear Diary,
I have moved yet again to another location. I had to leave Leo alone and i miss him very much. I was actually starting to make friends and fit in for a change. Everything is way different here than it was “back home.” I don’t like it here the least little bit. I am home schooled now so I have barely any human contact with the outside world. Well, I need to go clear my mind in the prairie.

S-the snow blocked the door and the roads were iced over and impossible to drive on
T-disappointed-manny took all of the food and didn’t tell anyone and no one could go to get any food bc the door was blocked by a few feet of snow

  5. Hey mayfield I read colt this week and I keep getting farther into it but reading two books. Anyways I want to finish it by this week so I will blog for ten minutes on authors purpose. So colt started saying he wasn’t having anymore cokes or soft drinks ever. I think the author put this in because he was determined to try to get kids our age to quit drinking them too well I got to get some sleep

  6. Hey, Can’t wait till’ Christmas!
    Wednesday -Creative
I am going to take some time and write about Christmas. It is a time for laughter and memories, not just for toys! Everyone gathering and being together. it is a happy time of the year. (even though family can be annoying lol) I like Christmas because I get to spend plenty (wink wink) of time with the family!.
    Thursday-Alternate Ending
I stopped where Stargirl was meditating at the field. She rose suddenly, thinking of Leo. How could I leave him behind, I must go back for him! Right when I fit in I get stolen by my true identity. I can’t go on like this. It is about time I move on with myself. I will sneak out at midnight. Hopefully this little girl with me wont wonder where I am, so a note! I will leave a note for my family so they wont be so upset!~

  8. i am reading a new book called The Invention of Hugo Cabret. i am already on page 202 and it is a great book. so far, this book is about a boy and his father that find an amazing thing that is used by magicians. it is called an atuomaton and hugo’s father found it in the attic of the muesem that he works at. no one knew how long it had been up there and didnt even know that it was up there. one day hugo noticed that his dad had never been home this late so he stayed awake to wait for him to come home. the next morning hugos dad was still gone and he suddenly noticed that his uncle had walked in and had terrible news. his father had been working on the robot in the attic and without noticing, the manager locked the door and he couldn’t escape. no one knew how the fire had even started in the first place but his father was trapped and couldn’t escape. his father, the automaton and the rest of the muesem burned and hugos father died.

  9. different ending:
suddenly as elizabeth was riding her flyingshoe she began to fall.
“whoa,” she said as her shoe slowly sank down.
“here grab my hand,” said mark he swooped down to her as she began to sink faster.
“gotcha,” he said as he brought her back up,
“thanks, okay now what do you think the key might look like?” she asked. how was she supposed to find the right key? what if she grabbed the wrong one or got lost?now that mr. stone had her sense of direction it was very likely she would get lost.
“okay ill come with you, im not really sure”
    “great,”
“maybe it will be shiny, or even still in it’s box like in the story. wouldnt it be cool to find the box the boy opened?”
    “ya, it would,” marc said.

  10. scamper
    s-magic/golden key
c- you could combime anjali and elizabeth
a- you could adapt it to baseball players and marc and elizabeth could be looking for a magic baseball
m- anjali could be the one looking for the key even though she is trapped.
p-you could use this story as an old fairytale
    e- youcould eliminate mr. stone
r- anjali is looking for the key and elizabeth and marc are trapped

  11. pov change:change to anjali

i walked down the road to walter stone’s house and rang the doorbell, he should be able to give me some answers.
“who is it?” a voice came from the speaker
“im here to see mr. stone about some very important objects,”
“come on in,” i was surprised, i thought i was going to have to do some negotiating in order to let me in. this mmight be easier than i thought it was going to be.
i walked up to his apartment room and he opened the door. he opened the door chanting some kind of spell, i only knew what spell it was until after it was over. isaw myself begin to ripple and fade away.
“help!” i yelled but it was to late, he had me.

  12. hi mr mayfield I’m blogging you from the couch. i have been sick this week but i will be at school tomorrow. Im doing twenty minutes.

mon- ok so sadie walks up to this statue of ra and she says that this is the one that she thinks is holding the scroll. carter tries to check the statue for traps but he doesn’t find any. sadie says her favorite spell (the opening spell) and the statue spits out the scroll.

Tues.- immediately what looks like ghost start coming from each hallway. sadie picks up the scroll and her hand starts to catch on fire. she tries to drop it but it sticks to her hand. the fire didn’t burn and it was blue. carter tells them they should rum so they do.

weds- they run into the ballroom and sadie and carter make everyone freak out the ghosts fill the room and surround carter and their friends. he hears one of the ghosts and it tells him that he will not succeed. one of their students tries to use their powers to heal sadie but she used to much so she passed out.

thurs- the other student picked up the student. khofu started yelling on the roof so they all climbed up the roap. they look at the police and all of the eople going crazy and sadie felt bad for the woman that that was having her wedding. they all jumped on their flying carpet and went home.

  13. song of today is 115 by Elena Siegman, creative:

The evil robot (George), now supercharged by the fallen wire, sprinted toward his counterpart. he reached out an apartment-sized hand and slapped the good robot, who shall be henceforth known as Kenny, landed in Cherynobyl. He grabbed a handful of of radioactive waste and scorched it into a mammoth fireball with power equal to a nuclear bomb. George had caught up with Kenny by now, and attempted to extinguish the fireball to no avail. the fireball’s origins, the radioactive waste, was mixed in with a powerful substance which attracted meteors. A meteor big enough to demolish both robots was heading their way now, a fact they remained oblivious to. The fireball was seconds away from exploding, but at the moment the figurative switch was flipped, the meteor crashed into the area. It crushed the robots and smothered the fireball, and finally, all was calm.

okay, lets finish up harry potter 6 (finally!) dumbledore’s funeral is imminent, and is drawing Wizarding folk from all over the world. Hermione found proof that Eileen Prince was Snape’s mother and that his dad was a muggle, so he was proud of being a half blood prince. dumbledore’s body was engulfed in a white flame, leaving white marble in its place. Harry realizes that his life from now on will revolve around defeating voldemort, and ginny understands that they cant be together. Scrimingeor tries to tempt harry into joining the ministry, but harry shoots him down immediately. he tells hermione and ron theat he won’t return next year to hogwarts, and they agree to follow him.

Onto the newest Rick Riordan, the Son of Neptune. Percy gets chased by medusa’s sisters, who cannot turn life forms to stone with one glance. He repeatedly destroys them, but they never stay down. He reaches a scenic overlook of a highway. He, naturally, jumps off, sliding on a metal tray. when he hits the ground next to a bush containing Juno (roman Hera). he can either carry her into a tunnel or retreat into the sea and live. He scoops her up and dashes for the tunnel. Two teenagers shoot down the gorgons and escort Percy into the tunnel. A river surrounds a city inside the paradoxically large area, and Juno warns Percy that, should he cross the river, he will lose the blessing of Achilles and feel pain, misery, and loss like any other mortal. He, bearing no memory of anything but Annabeth, charges through, feeling his soul being carried away with the current. Frank, the male sentry, uses some magic power to create giant hands out of the river (the little tiber) that scatter the reformed monsters’ essence too far away to reform. Percy gets introduced to Reyna, the camp praector (the other was Jason, from the Lost Hero) she remembers him and immediately dislikes him, because he destroyed her home (Circe’s island/resort) he gets dragged to the camp augur, Octavian, who mutilates teddy bears to tell the future. then come the war games. . . See ya next week!

  14. Monday
This week I’m blogging about The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman. It is by Brian Jaques, the author of the Redwall series. Anywho, I know that he wrote this to entertain the reader. I pretty sure anyways. I think he wrote this to entertain, but he used facts about the countries and myths of the Flying Dutchman to an advantage, because he twists it to a new point of view of a never-before-heard-of-character. At the same time though he creates the image a huge ship where the boy is put in the galley.

    Tuesday

Wondering what would have happened if Neb would have escaped in Denmark?
My guess is that he would have found the black lab and went to a bench and hid until the pirates were gone. Then he would have made a home and been one of those beggars who sits on the corner of the block in New York. Or maybe if he didn’t like the dog anymore … sell the poor black lab. I mean that’s what I would have to do if I were him, but I’m not so that is all his discision. That is what I think would have happened to Neb if he escaped the ship in Denmark.

    Wednesday

After a lot of thought The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman is like the beginning of Peter and the Starcatchers. They both have characters get on ships. Neb got on because he was running from his stepbrothers and one of them hit him and he fell into the ice cold water, then all of a sudden a stringy rope hits his head and he uses all his strength to climb onboard. In the other book orphans get onboard because the are forced to be slaves to an evil king overseas. Well, I mean, they have \the same ideas just different plots.

    Thursday

So far the captain of the Flying Dutchmanis making a deal with a chinease merchant who is offering FOUR emeralds for him to deliver emeralds to other high-paying people. On another POV a boy is running from his stepbrothers and runs into a dead-end. His stepbrothers or the ocean?!?!?!?!?!? Which is worse?!?!?!? Well, he doesn’t have a choice because one of his stepbrothers cuffs (hits) him in the jaw and falls into the freezing cold ocean shivering and alone.

  15. December 2,2011 (make up)
    Hey Mr.Mayfield,
I am reading Ulysses S. Grant, The Unlikely Hero. I have learned in this biography that Ulysses was known as one of the greatest American Generals, but also rancked on for being one of our most weakest presidents. Ulysses was ruthless and came up with brilliant military plans. Though he was one of the most brilliant military leaders, he was an unlikely hero. People believed that Ulysses was like no other in many ways. First he was also said to understand war like no other man exept Lincoln. Ulysses was known to many as a leader and also ‘picked on’ for being a weaker leader. I can realate that to class today. I remember we were getting upset with one of our classmates for dominating, we were basicically picking on him for being smart and that is what people were doing to Ulysses because they were jealous as we were to that one dominating person.
